Quarter 1: the american dream

Reflection on the theme

I agree that over time the American Dream with hard work, does change. After reading Elizabeth Stanton's  "Declaration of Sentiments" women knew in that time, in order to be heard they have to work hard to achieve change and the rights for women. Along with that declaration, reading Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech it was his specific dream for all Americans so there is equality instead of separation and hate.Their dreams tie into the American Dream which took time.

Columnist rhetorical analysis reflection

Rosa Brooks' most used rhetorical strategies are logos and pathos by using deductive reasoning along with having common ground with her audience.

The great gatsby

After reading Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech and Elizabeth Stanton's "Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" their dreams are evident, but they are just looking for the change needed to be content. As well as in "The Great Gatsby" with Nick living by himself he was content with his job and his situation without others. People can be content with their lives even if they don't have all of what they dream of having. If the majority is there that would bring them true satisfaction.

I will aim to better prepare myself mentally to write a functional formal paper. I will push myself to write a longer smoother sounding paper.

Favorite 40-Minute timed write

The Argument Essay on "The Common Life" was my favorite because it was agreeable and it helped me look at things in a different perspective and it showed me in short that even if it doesn't sound ideal relationships between society and a individual are still necessary in life.

QUARTER 1 REFLECTION

I learned in Quarter 1 that I always have room to improve and that annotating is a really useful thing to do while doing work even when it seems pointless. The most meaningful assignment would be the timed writes because it shows me how to be a better writer under pressure. I wished we skipped the formal paper honestly from never writing more than a page to a minimum to 3 was horrible. I'm looking forward to more interesting conversations on identity in Quarter 2 and my learning goals would be writing better papers.

Quarter 2: Identity, Race, and Culture

Their Eyes Were Watching God

Diction played a vast role in Their Eyes Were Watching God to advance the theme. The use of it makes it come alive. How the characters spoke gave insight to the time period of the story. We determined the race by the diction. This also shows the town to be coming from the south.

Precis Papers

The rhetorical device commonly used between the two authors are logos by reasoning with the reader. As well as analyzing the both sides of the metaphorical coin to show the reader the depth of the story as well. The author uses these to advance their overall meaning by explaining what is happening and showing who is here to help.

Synthesis Paper Reflection

My paper did answer the prompt of what defines a person's identity. Yes, the required use of sources and with the visual, i was comfortable because with any type of writing there should be another creative outlook included. I stuck with the minimum because if I have too much of something I get overwhelmed when working.

In the process of researching, i learned that I have a hard time finding sources of my own to use. My sources were reliable because I took time in finding them and made sure they were coming reliable sources themselves.

The style of writing threw me off. I do not think I would be comfortable again but if I have to I would be better prepared to understand what I have to do. The easiest thing about the paper was just writing it as a whole and putting my opinion in the world. What was challenging was me. My mindset drew me back and that challenged me majorly. When I feel like I was going good in writing after a few sentences I would get stuck that is one thing that made me not confident in mu organization. Lastly, the counterargument was the easiest for you because I like to analyze the different parts of another person's claims.

Quarter 2 Reflection

I learned in AP Lang in Quarter 2 was that I was my own set back still am to this very day.  The most meaningful were the discussions we had in class because we got to understand where other people were coming from with their own perspective of identity. Even though I was absent I gained a new way of formatting although at the same time I wish we skipped it because I don't like switching how I write because then I feel less confident in myself as a writer. In Quarter 3 I will always dread writing longer and longer papers but at the end of the day, it is helping me grow academically. But my learning goals are to learn how to keep myself on track as well as keep up with deadlines.
